IS YOUR ROOF SAFE FROM FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS?

So you’re getting ready for your big Fourth of July celebration, complete with a BBQ, outdoor games and watching those beautiful fireworks.  Regardless of the legality of the fireworks, Williams Roofing would like to suggest some helpful information on how to protect your home and roof from damage due to wayward fireworks.

Remove Branches

Even though fireworks burn hot only briefly, that is all the time it takes to catch a tree branch on fire that is hanging to low on your roof.  Make sure to cut those branches and limbs to reduce potential fires.

Clean the Gutters

The gutters are another place where dry foliage collects and can be a potential fire hazard.  Pine needles, leaves and dried moss can catch fire quickly, so keep them from collecting in the gutters or other flat areas on the roof.

Inspect the Roof

Be sure to check your roof for damage that you may not know exists.  Holes in the roof can allow sparks into the attic where non-fire proof items can catch fire.  Even old, dry tarpaper and sheathing can be a fire hazard.  Inspect your roof just for peace of mind and call in an experienced professional roofer like Williams Roofing Co. if repairs or replacement is necessary.

Meet your Neighbors

How worried are you in regards to their activities on the Fourth?  Our advice is to know your neighbors and determine what their plans are, while creating a relationship that promotes respect for each other’s property.  If you won’t be there on the 4thto keep an eye on your home, a respected neighbor will be able to help you out.

Enjoy your Fourth of July! We here at Williams Roofing Company are very grateful for our freedom and for those who sacrifice to protect it!  Thank a Veteran or Soldier for their sacrifice this upcoming holiday!
